Two Stroke Cylinder Plating Service
Modern two stroke ATV, dirt bike and motorcycle cylinders use durable plated surfaces that provide excellent heat transfer and wear resistance. Eventually, cylinder wear, scoring, deep gouges, cracks or flaking plating can make repair necessary.
Ken OConnor Racing provides complete cylinder plating service for worn and damaged cylinders. Depending on the cylinder’s condition, service can include stripping, welding, replating, precision honing, boring and power valve service. Ship us your cylinder and we will manage the complete process from inspection through final assembly.

Repairing Worn and Damaged Plated Cylinders
Scoring, worn plating, flaking, deep gouges and certain cracks do not always mean that a cylinder must be replaced. Damaged areas may be welded and repaired before the cylinder is replated and honed to the correct finished size.
Every cylinder should be inspected before work begins to determine the proper repair procedure. If boring, welding or power valve modification is required, we will identify the additional work needed.

Cylinder Plating Questions:
What types of cylinders can be replated?
Many plated aluminum cylinders used in two stroke ATV, dirt bike and motorcycle engines can be repaired and replated. The cylinder must be inspected to determine whether its damage is repairable.
Can a deeply scored cylinder be repaired?
Many deeply scored or gouged cylinders can be repaired by welding the damaged area before replating and honing. Severe damage must be evaluated individually.
Should I send the piston with my cylinder?
Yes, whenever possible. Having the piston allows the finished cylinder to be honed and its piston-to-cylinder clearance verified for that specific piston.
Do you service the power valve?
Yes. Power valve cleaning, servicing and reassembly are included with the listed cylinder plating packages. Power valve modification is available separately when required.
How long does cylinder plating take?
Turnaround times vary depending on cylinder condition, required repairs and plating availability. Contact Ken OConnor Racing for the current estimated turnaround time.
