Cylinder Boring

Professional Cylinder Boring and Honing
Cylinder boring is the process of machining a worn or damaged cylinder to the correct size for an oversized piston. The finished bore must be round, straight and properly sized for the piston being used. Incorrect piston clearance or poor cylinder geometry can cause excessive noise, reduced performance, rapid ring wear, piston damage or complete engine failure.
Ken OConnor Racing has provided cylinder machining for performance engines for decades. Each cylinder is measured and machined according to the piston manufacturer’s specifications and the requirements of the engine.
What Our Cylinder Boring Service Includes
- Accurate cylinder inspection and measurement
- Precision boring for the supplied piston
- Power honing to establish the proper finish and clearance
- Chamfering of two stroke cylinder ports
- Final bore cleaning and inspection
- Verification of piston-to-cylinder clearance
Verification of piston-to-cylinder clearance
Two stroke cylinders require special attention because the piston rings travel across the intake, transfer and exhaust ports. Sharp port edges or machining burrs can catch a piston ring and cause serious engine damage. All two stroke ports are carefully chamfered after boring and honing.
