Two Stroke Cylinder Head Machining

Ken OConnor Racing provides professional two stroke cylinder head machining for ATV, dirt bike, snowmobile and other powersports engines. Each cylinder head is machined according to the engine application and the customer’s performance goals.

Proper cylinder head machining can improve combustion efficiency, throttle response and power while maintaining the correct piston clearance and fuel requirements. All machining is performed in house at our engine machine shop.

Two Stroke Cylinder Head Machining Services

Our cylinder head machining services may include:

  • Setting the correct squish clearance
  • Adjusting squish velocity
  • Machining the combustion chamber
  • Correcting combustion chamber volume
  • Lapping or resurfacing gasket surfaces
  • Checking piston-to-head clearance
  • Preparing cylinder heads for stock or performance engines

Final pricing depends on the cylinder head design, condition and machining required. Contact us before shipping if you have questions about your application.

Why Proper Squish Clearance Matters

Squish clearance affects combustion efficiency, detonation resistance and engine performance. Clearance that is too tight can allow the piston to contact the cylinder head. Excessive clearance can reduce combustion efficiency and increase the risk of detonation.

The correct measurement depends on the engine, piston, connecting rod, operating RPM, fuel and intended use. Cylinder head machining should therefore be based on the complete engine combination rather than a universal specification.

Cylinder Heads We Machine

We machine removable cylinder heads for many two stroke ATV, dirt bike, snowmobile, personal watercraft and other powersports engines. Stock rebuilds, modified engines and racing applications are welcome.
